Most dog owners feel that their dogs are their best friends. Almost everyone likes dogs because they try hard to please their owners. One of my favorite stories is about a dog that wanted his owner to please him.
One of my friends has a large German shepherd named Jack. These dogs are often very intelligent. Every Sunday afternoon, my friend takes Jack for a walk in the park.Jack likes these long walks very much.
One Sunday afternoon, a young man came to visit my friend. He stayed a long time, and he talked and talked. So it was time for my friend to take Jack for his walk, but the visitor didn’t leave. Jack became very worried about his walk in the park. He walked around the room several times and then sat down directly in front of the visitor and looked at him. But the visitor paid no attention. He continued talking. Finally, Jack Couldn’t stand it any longer. He went out the room and came back a few minutes later.
He sat down again in front of the visitor, but this time he held the man’s hat in his mouth.German shepherds aren’t the only intelligent dogs. Another intelligent dog is a Seeing Eye dog. This is a special dog, which helps blind people walk along the streets and do many other things. We call these dogs Seeing Eye dogs because they are the“eyes”of the blind people and they help them to “see”. Seeing Eye dogs generally go to special schools for several years to learn to help blind people.

Mom is always there; she had soup ready in the breakfast room by the time that Ann and Jim and I get home. Ann and Jim have never gone in for the cafeteria, either. Our house in only about a ten-minute walk from the school building, so we can make it back in plenty of time.
There's something about eating in the cafeteria--and not leaving the high school from morning until afternoon -- that feels a little like being in prison. By the end of the morning, I've got to get out of the building. And Mom never seems to mind fixing lunch for us; she never suggests that we eat in the cafeteria.
It's really the only time we have to be alone with her. In the morning Dad's there, and by the time I get home after messing around(混时间) after school, he's usually at home from work. So the time that Mom and I talk together is usually at lunch.
I feel sorry for the students who eat in the cafeteria every day. It would drive me mad, I don't know if their moms just don't like to cook for them in the middle of the day, or if they actually like the cafeteria and the cafeteria food.
When the author was in junior high school, ______.
A.he never ate in the cafeteria
B.he ate in the cafeteria sometimes but not often
C.he always went back for lunch
D.he often ate in the cafeteria

Twelve years ago, oceanographer Captain Charles Moore was skippering his yacht the Alguita in the North Pacific. He sailed into a mass of floating plastic rubbish which took him and his crew a week to cross. This floating rubbish dump is now called the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and doubles the size of the USA.
The United Nations says there are now 18,000 pieces of plastic in every square kilometre of sea everywhere in the world. A walk along any beach will give you some idea of the seriousness of plastic pollution.
The trouble is, when we throw out plastic with the trash, the plastic doesn"t go away. Plastic does not biodegrade. It photo degrades into smaller and smaller particles which then enter the food chain.
Plastics contain cancer-causing chemicals along the food chain in increasing concentrations and end up in our fish and chips, along with hormone disruptors. Scientists try to tell us that we are killing ourselves as well as other animals. At least 200 species are, as I speak, being killed by plastic.
Whales, dolphins, turtles and albatross confuse floating plastic, especially shopping bags and six pack rings, with jellyfish.
Some countries have rebelled and banned plastic bags. And the first was brave Bangladesh. Then China took the same decision. Botswana, Canada, Israel, Kenya, Rwanda, Singapore and South Africa have also banned plastic bags. Notice how many of the world"s richest countries are not on this list. It"s an absolute disgrace.
Think globally, act locally. A small Australian town is now one step ahead of the rest of the world. The inhabitants of Bundanoon in New South Wales have banned plastic bottles from the town.
We need to follow their example and eliminate plastic from our lives, take care of the earth and vote for people we think will do the same.
The writer says that we can get an idea of how much plastic rubbish there is in the oceans by________. 查看材料
A.looking at the sea
B.travelling across the USA

How do people learn body language? The same way they learn spoken language-by observing and imitating people around them as they' re growing up. (6)________. Little boys imitate their fathers or a respected uncle or a character on television. In this way. They learn the gender signals appropriate for their sex. Regional. class. and ethnic patterns of body behavior. are also learned in childhood and persist throughout their life.
(7)________. In America, for example. women stand with their thighs together. Many walk with their pelvis (骨盆) tipped slightly forward and their upper arms close to their body. Leg behavior. indicates sex , status , and personality. It also indicates whether or not one is at ease or is showing respect or disrespect for the other person. Young Latin American males avoid crossing their legs. In their world of machismo (男子气概), the preferred position for young males when with one another .is to sit on the base of the spine with their leg muscles relaxed and their feet wide apart. Their respect position is like our military equivalent: spine straight , heels and ankles together-almost identical to that displayed by properly brought up young women in New England in the early part of this century.
The way we walk , similarly , indicates status , respect , mood , and ethnic or cultural affiliation.
